Sorry it's a day belated, but Happy Birthday America! Nothing like a little time away to make you appreciate your country even more. :)
I expected to pass just like any other day in Addis. I'm not sure if it was lack of sleep, or reaching my one month milestone of being away from home, but I was surprisingly nostalgic all day!
One of the best things about my time in Addis so far is the people I've met. It was fascinating watching everyone at our house last night, all automatically united because of the sheer fact that we're HERE.
Menu-wise, we went as American as we could for our party. It required trips to many different stores, and some last minute scrambling when there was no power in the hours leading up to the party, but we managed to assemble a pretty good spread.
There's only one bakery in Addis that sells tortilla chips!
Mac and cheese :)
Somebody has a friend at the embassy and scored good beer ;)
I made brownies and a strawberry cake with white chocolate frosting:
And the Canadians brought donuts!
There was beer pong and Budweiser. Obviously.
I'd say it was a pretty good on the other side of the world.
I'm headed north to the cities of Lalibela and Gondar this weekend to see rock-hewn churches and castles. See you back in Addis!
